Polymers
Key Words
Monomer - a molecule that can be reacted together with other monomer molecules to form a larger polymer chain.
Condensation Polymerisation - two monomers react together making polymer chains. Small molecules (eg. water) is lost. Two products are formed, the polymer and a small molecule (eg.water).
Addition Polymerisation - only one monomer type contatining a C=C bond react to make only one product.
Amino Acid - contains two different functional groups, amino group and carboxyl group.
Polypeptides - a polymer formed by amino acids. Long chains of polypeptides are known as proteins.
Nucleotide Polymers - used to make DNA molecules. DNA is made of two nucleotide polymer chains.
